The shortlist is in
for The Jameson Empire Awards and you can now cast your vote until Friday. Here
is a run down of the nominees with our picks and a link to the voting site:
BEST MALE NEWCOMER
John Boyega (Attack
The Block)
Asa Butterfield
(Hugo)
Sam Claflin (Pirates
Of The Caribbean 4)
Tom Hiddleston (Thor)
Jeremy Irvine (War
Horse)
Craig Roberts
(Submarine)
And the Amateur review vote goes to Tom Hiddleston for his
performance in Thor. We also loved him in War Horse and after missing out on
the BAFTA Rising Star this only seems fair!
BEST FEMALE NEWCOMER
Celine Buckens (War Horse)
Elle Fanning (Super 8)
Laura Haddock (The Inbetweeners Movie)
Felicity Jones (Like Crazy)
Hailee Steinfeld (True Grit)
Bonnie Wright (Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows- Part 2)
Hailee Steinfeld has walked this category for us! Her courageous performance in True Grit was impressive given her young age - looking forward to seeing her in Romeo and Juliet.
BEST COMEDY
Attack The Block
Bridesmaids
Crazy Stupid Love
The Inbetweeners Movie
Midnight In Paris
The vote has to go to Woody Allen’s quirky rom-com set in
the most beautiful city in the world. Owen Wilson provides some genuinely funny
moments – well worth a watch.
BEST HORROR
Attack The Block
Insidious
Kill List
Paranormal Activity 3
Troll Hunter
It's gotta be Paranormal Activity - terrifying!
BEST THRILLER
Drive
The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo
Hanna
Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy
The toughest category in my opinion as Dragon Tattoo and
TTSS have been two of the best films of recent years, however our loyalty
remains with the British bunch – the Cold War spies all the way!
BEST SCI-FI/FANTASY
Captain America: The First Avenger
Rise of The Planet Of The Apes
Super 8
Thor
X-Men: First Class
The X-Men have it I’m afraid. Although I will say that James
McAvoy is NEVER a young Professor X – with or without the hair!
THE ART OF 3D
The Adventures of Tintin
Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows – Part 2
Hugo
Thor
Transformers: Dark Of The Moon
Supporting the Brits again! The final instalment of Harry
Potter did unbelievable justice to the books of a generation. Sheer class.
JAMESON BEST ACTOR
Daniel Craig (The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo)
Daniel Craig (The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo)
Ryan Gosling (Drive)
Gary Oldman (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy)
Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows- Part
2)
Andy Serkis (Rise Of the Planet Of The Apes)
Hard choice! But it has to be Gary Oldman – anyone who said
he couldn’t give Alec Guiness as run for his money was wrong – Gary was George Smiley.
BEST ACTRESS
Olivia Colman (Tyrannosaur)
Rooney Mara (The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo)
Carey Mulligan (Drive)
Meryl Streep (The Iron Lady)
Michelle Williams (My Week With Marilyn)
A career defining performance for Rooney Mara. The
transformation she went through to play Lisbeth was quite phenomenal.
BEST DIRECTOR
Tomas Alfredson (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy)
Nicolas Winding Refn (Drive)
Steven Spielberg (War Horse)
Rupert Wyatt (Rise of The Planet Of The Apes)
David Yates (harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows – Part 2)
Well done Tomas Alfredson, your espionage thriller was
quietly brilliant. You showed the world spies don’t need to be like James Bond!
BEST BRITISH FILM
Attack The Block
The Inbetweeners Movie
Submarine
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy
Tyrannosaur
I needn’t bother – but Tinker Tailor by a mile…
BEST FILM
Drive
The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo
Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows – Part 2
Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy
All fantastic films… however no real surprise where the
Amateur Review's allegiance lies!
